This country is crazy about crappies! Did you know that crappies are second only to bass as the most sought-after fish in the United States? They are fun to catch, fight hard and are incredible table fare.
Wolf Pack Adventures' very own Jerrad Kalmerton and partner Brett Koenig took second place honors at the Cabela's Masters Walleye Circuit tournament event in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, May 8-9, 2015.
They weighed 39.00 pounds on Day 1 which put them in second place. Watch this video as Jerrad prepares to head out on the morning of Day 2 looking for another big bag.
With the 2015 Wisconsin opener coming this weekend, the walleye fishing has been nothing short of fantastic! Captains Jerrad Kalmerton and Tyler Chisholm have been hitting some hot action on both the Winnebago and Green Bay systems. Trolling and casting crankbaits, and jigging plastics, have been very productive ways to catch fish. Some true trophy walleye fishing is upon us these next weeks. Now is a great time to catch the fish of a lifetime, and add a few to the freezer as well.
Walleyes have started their spawning as water temps are just getting to their low end spawning temperatures. The males are abundant and it won't be long before even more females will be caught.
The recent rains and warm weather have pushed some brown and rainbow trout into the rivers. These fish are preparing to spawn and are a lot of fun to catch on light spinning tackle. Finding the fish can be tough with the low water and lack of current but try floating spawn and casting crank baits and spinners to land a few of these trout.
There are five species of wild turkey targeted throughout the United States, and many hunters will tell you that turkey hunting adventures are some of the most heart-pumping, breathtaking moments in their memory banks. Where I live in Wisconsin, turkey hunting is an opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts to get back to what they live for after being cooped up all winter. Beyond that, the unique sights and sounds of watching the world come alive are never more evident that in the spring - get out there!
The "Turning Leaf" muskie hunt weekend is all about bringing youth into the outdoors to experience something that they may not otherwise get to experience. It's based on fishing education, camaraderie and pursuing the fish of 10,000 casts. This annual fall event is coordinated and presented by Sheboygan County Conservation Association, Between the Lakes Muskie Chaper, Camp Y-Koda and Wolf Pack Adventures.
We have had the opportunity to add author to our resume over the past few years and enjoy sharing our experiences. In 2014, we partnered with Badger Sportsman Magazine to provide several stories highlighting some of our favorite Wisconsin outdoor adventures. In case you missed them, previews and links to the complete articles are available below. We will continue to share our 2015 articles as they publish. Hope you enjoy them!
On this episode of Outdoor Junkies, Pat Kalmerton takes us back to Blackhawk Lake to fish the cribs that he had scouted back in the fall season but this time it's through the ice. He's joined by his father Roy and friend Tommy for some amazing bluegill action through the ice. Junkie Style! See how they're catching 'em in this video.
